EPHOR presented at the launch of the European Human Exposome Network event
The European Exposome Network is an overarching network structure bringing together all nine funded exposome projects (>106 M€ total). These projects deal with understanding health in relation to the exposome for early life, immune health, respiratory disease, urban health, cardiovascular disease, metabolic diseases, exposome data infrastructures, and occupational exposures.
The launch meeting underlined that there is a real concern at the European Union level for the relationship between environment and health, also in relation to climate change. We were challenged to discuss our projects in light of the Green Deal, Europe’s aim to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050: to which extent exposome research could foster the Green Deal and vice versa. Possibilities for EPHOR within this context will be explored. What comes to mind are emerging occupational risks associated with alternative energy technologies, protecting most vulnerable workers, contributing to zero pollutant emissions and more. It is a subject well worth thinking about.
